Queen Mary 2 in Sydney

Mar 07, 2017

On Thursday the 2nd of March I strolled down to Circular Quay to see what is arguably the most famous cruise ship in the world - the Queen Mary 2.

At first sight I was stunned by her size. Towering above the Passenger terminal, Queen Mary 2 certainly demands attention. The ship is by far the largest I have ever seen docked in the harbour.

Once on board we had a look at the newly refurbished cabins. All categories, from an Inside Stateroom to Queens Grill have noticeably had a face-lift with modern furnishings and carpet. I was particularly impressed by the size of the bathrooms which are by far the largest I have seen, allowing ample room to move around.

There are numerous public spaces on board where you can eat, drink and play, each having their own individual charm and elegance about them. My favourite was the Carinthia Lounge; a nice, relaxing place to grab a drink and chat.

You'd think that being such a large ship there would be a lot of people on board during a cruise but I was surprised to hear that the maximum capacity is only 2,695 guests at any one time. That is considerably less than many other ships of her size or even smaller.

Queen Mary 2 certainly exceeded my expectations of a luxury cruise ship. I had in mind a very traditional sort of look reminiscent of a Holland America ship but once on board I realised that the interior design was very different. All of the spaces are quite open with just the right amount of lighting to create a warm and relaxing atmosphere. All of the elements from the artwork to the carpet is flawless in design.

Queen Mary 2 Remastered is certainly something to behold...
