Another victim COVID19, the Parkes Elvis Festival for 2021 has been canned.
For the first time since 1993, there will be no blue suede shoes, no Black Conquistador jumpsuits, no Priscilla wigs and no “uh huh, thank you very much” impersonations.
Usually held in January, this country town swells with visitors who are die-hard fans of The King, impersonators of all talent levels, those renewing their vows, or those just there to relive (or experience first-hand) the music of the 50’s and 60’s.
Always entertaining, (or corny) the town has already announced its 2022 dates.
So, where does that leave those of you who want to Shake, Rattle and Roll? No need to go Cryin’ in the Chapel, or go searchin In the Ghetto. Don’t go checking in at Heartbreak Hotel, or get All shook Up……
P&O are here to satisfy your Elvis fix. Depart from Brisbane on the 10th of May 2021 for 5 Nights or depart from Sydney on the 29th of July 2021 for their “Tribute to The King” short cruises. Pacific Explorer will host themed parties, karaoke, trivia, movie and concert marathons, tribute artists – basically a whole “Hunka, Hunka “ ship full of entertainment and memorabilia.
And this really is just not for those of you who are full-on fans. Having been out to Parkes a couple of times, I am always amazed at the ages who know Elvis stuff. I love seeing little kiddies with grandparents ( probably great-grandparents) who have been bought up on this music.
Rock’n’ Roll, Gospel, Country and Western, The King did it all. Rockabilly, ballads, blues and pop – not only did Elvis change the face of music in his time, his cultural impact of crossing cultures, provocative dance moves that changed generations and delivered a strong message of no matter what your beginnings,you can realise your dream.
So, after the year that was 2020, we all need a little fun, a little getaway, and a reason to sing and dance. So, pull-up those bobby sox, slick back those duck-tails, and get your body a wigglin' and quiverin'
