Bucket list, Breathtaking, Spectacular Ports Around The World - By Senior Consultant, Cory!

May 31, 2021

Sailing into a new port is such an exciting feeling, especially knowing you are going to explore a new destination, a new culture, have new experiences. Coming into a new city via ship can give you some of the most breathtaking views on offer and there are some truly iconic ports around the world. Let’s look at a few!

Not to be Biased but Circular Quay, Sydney Harbour must be one of the most dramatic ports to arrive or depart, with the towering Harbour Bridge & iconic Opera house as a backdrop its truly a sight to marvel. Being in the heart of the city you have instant access to the CBD & surrounds and literally metres away from the Museum of Contemporary Art. As you depart on a lovely summer afternoon with a cocktail in hand and the sail away party in full swing, you can gawk at the million-dollar mansions along the water as the ship slowly makes her way in or out of the heads.

Experience departing from Sydney Harbour in December 2022 on Regent Seven Seas Explorer & spend New Years eve in the Bustling city of Melbourne - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/106760/lord-of-the-fjordes

Italy’s third largest city and a gorgeous port, Vesuvius, Naples has views of Mount Vesuvius towering over the city and is a truly unforgettable vista. The Port is located a leisurely 10-minute walk from the city centre so you do not have to wait long to get that famous Pizza in your hands. Naples is a gateway for both Pompeii & Capri. Hopefully you book a cruise with an overnight or extended stay here so you can experience both famous places!

Visit Naples on this 17-night cruise, 21-night fly/cruise package in November 2022 on Regent Seven Seas Splendor. You not only visit Naples but you visit a new port almost every day with 16 different ports visited - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/106737/adriatic-shores-and-riviera-delights

Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic” Dubrovnik, Croatia is probably very familiar to you if you watched any of the Game of Thrones series. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Croatia has become so popular in the last few years that there are measures in place to restrict the number of tourists and cruise ships visiting at one time. The main port is around 3km from the city centre in an industrial type area but the dramatic picturesque scenes you see whilst arriving or departing are spectacular! Experience this Medieval city on the 7-night cruise onboard Brilliance of the Seas in 2022. https://www.ecruising.travel/product/111077/greece-and-croatia-cruise

It is a sight to behold when arriving or departing on a ship into Cape Town, South Africa. The port is within walking distance of Cape Town's culturally rich inner city, and on the doorstep of the magnificent V&A Waterfront. The stunning vista of the bustling city meeting the enormous Table Mountain leaps out at you and draws you straight into the hustle & bustle of African culture.

So you can experience the Awe inspiring Table Mountain join us on this 15-night cruise, 18-night fly/cruise package in December 2022 & Spend Christmas & New Years onboard Regent Seven Seas Voyager - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/106758/celebrate-on-safari

Spectacular Norwegian Scenery at Flam, Norway is probably one of the only backdrops that can make even the largest cruise ship look tiny! There is not a massive amount to do in Flam, but with scenery that speaks for itself, you do not need things to do. Spend time admiring Mother Nature. Go for a walk around the Fjord, maybe take a Fjord boat trip or a ride upon the famous Flam Railway, widely recognized as one of the steepest and most beautiful railways in the world.

Spend a day at Flam on this 9-night cruise onboard Jewel of the Seas as well as various other Norwegian Fjord ports - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/111100/norwegian-fjords-cruise

This one is going to rival Sydney Harbour but is much less inaccessible as only a very small number of smaller ships can port at Tower Bridge, London, thereby making it one of the most exclusive cruise ports in the world. No pier or big fancy terminal, right in the centre of the city, you have officially arrived and you have certainly arrived in style. And with no ship longer than 158m able to berth here, it is truly a unique experience. What a better way to Experience London than actually overnighting in Port at the Tower Bridge, London, which you can do on PONANT’s 9-night cruise on Le Champlain - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/116246/pearls-of-northern-europe

Let’s be honest translucent blue water is a spectacular way to arrive at a port & Nassau, Bahamas, has to be up there with some of the clearest waters in a port & it is also quite a spectacle as usually multiple ships are in port at the same time. If sailing with Royal Caribbean, they have their private island Coco Cay nearby as well as NCL’s private Island Great Stirrup Cay. Downtown Nassau is a brief 10-minute walk away with the main shopping street only a block away from the terminal for some quick souvenir shopping before spending the remainder of the day frolicking in the picturesque waters of the Island! Visit both Nassau & RCCL’s private Island Coco Cay on our short break 4 night cruise in August 2022 onboard Brilliance of the Seas - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/114866/bahamas-and-perfect-day-cruise

One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Stockholm, Sweden. Few ports can claim such a glamorous approach as the ship navigates the archipelago of 24,000 islands, with a mix of rocky outcrops inhabited only by wildlife & islets boasting stylish summer homes. The ports themselves, depending on the port your ship docks at, are not that glamourous but the stunning approach into Stockholm will make up for any downfalls at the actual port! Visit this port on the 7-night cruise onboard Voyager of the Seas which also visits Russia, bonus cruise ship guests don’t need to pre arrange the time consuming visa for Russia - https://www.ecruising.travel/product/114364/scandinavia-and-russia-cruise

Let’s face it, at the moment I think I would be happy to be on any cruise ship, arriving in any port, ANYWHERE in the world.. right?! So, hopefully this has given you a few ports to put on that bucket list in the meantime for when cruising does resume!
